Occupational Therapy in Arlington specifically

Northern Virginia has one of the deepest sets of pediatric OT providers in the state — private sensory-focused clinics across Arlington, Fairfax, and Alexandria, hospital-affiliated programs, and school-based services. Some clinics have sensory gyms and specialize in sensory integration.

Three main pathways deliver OT in NoVA:

  • Early intervention (under 3): OT is part of the Infant & Toddler Connection.
  • School-based: If motor or sensory needs affect education, OT can be written into an IEP by Arlington or Fairfax County Public Schools (or your division).
  • Clinic-based / medical: Private and hospital clinics provide medically-oriented OT, covered by insurance, Cardinal Care Medicaid, FEHB, or TRICARE.

School-based OT is tied to educational goals (like handwriting or classroom participation), while clinic-based OT can address a broader range of sensory and daily-living goals — many families use both.
