Autism Resources in Wisconsin
A statewide guide to autism services across Wisconsin — for families in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Kenosha, Appleton, and communities across the state.
Wisconsin has several genuinely strong pillars for autism families: one of the country's older autism insurance mandates (2009), a Medicaid "Behavioral Treatment" benefit covering ABA with no hard age cap, the Children's Long-Term Support (CLTS) Waiver, and the Waisman Center at UW-Madison — a nationally recognized autism and developmental-disabilities research and clinical center.
Wisconsin also faces real challenges — long diagnostic waitlists at its major centers, a county-administered system that produces real variation from place to place, and workforce shortages that can make approved services hard to actually staff.
This page walks through how the pieces fit together and where the gaps are. We've written it as a starting point. Wisconsin readers who know specifics better than we do — tell us what we got wrong or missed.
