Autism Resources in Alabama
A statewide guide to autism services across Alabama — for families in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, and communities across the state.
Alabama has a small but real set of autism anchors — UAB's Civitan-Sparks Clinics in Birmingham, Glenwood Autism & Behavioral Health, the Alabama Early Intervention System, and, since 2017, a state insurance mandate that requires ABA coverage. Alabama also faces genuine challenges: long diagnostic waits, provider shortages that hit rural counties hardest, Medicaid ABA rules that have been in flux, and Medicaid waivers with waiting lists measured in years.
This page walks through how the pieces fit together and where the gaps are.
