Autism Resources in Alaska
A statewide guide to autism services across Alaska — for families in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, the Mat-Su Valley, and the many communities off the road system, from Southeast to the Interior to the Bush.
Alaska is the largest state in the country and one of the most remote, and nothing shapes autism services here more than that. Many Alaska communities are not connected by road — reaching a specialist can mean a flight, sometimes a very expensive one, and sometimes seasonal weather delays. Anchorage holds most of the state's autism provider capacity, but a large share of Alaska families live far from it. As a result, telehealth is not a nice-to-have in Alaska; it is a lifeline, and often the only realistic way to reach a specialist at all.
Alaska does have real assets: the Infant Learning Program for early intervention, a statewide autism resource center, Medicaid coverage of ABA, and an insurance mandate. But families should go in clear-eyed about travel, cost, and the limits of what's locally available.
This page walks through how the pieces fit together and where the gaps are — very honestly.
We've written this as a starting point. Alaska readers who know specifics better than we do — tell us what we got wrong or missed.
