Autism Resources in West Virginia
A statewide guide to autism services across West Virginia — for families in Charleston, Morgantown, Huntington, Parkersburg, Wheeling, and communities across the state's rural counties.
West Virginia has real strengths — WVU's Center for Excellence in Disabilities as a statewide hub, the WV Birth to Three early intervention program, an autism insurance mandate dating to 2011, and Medicaid coverage of ABA. It also faces some of the country's hardest rural-access challenges: a largely rural, mountainous geography, provider shortages, a long-standing waiver waiting list, and long travel distances for many families.
We won't pretend West Virginia's system is easy to navigate. This page tries to be honest about both the resources and the gaps.
We've written this as a starting point. West Virginia readers who know specifics better than we do — tell us what we got wrong or missed.
