Autism-Friendly Things to Do in Fort Myers, Florida

Fort Myers is a thin market for formal sensory programming, and we would rather say so than invent options. What works here is treating Southwest Florida as one region, using the nearby Naples children's museum, tracking regional listings, and leaning hard on the outdoors — which in this part of Florida is genuinely excellent.

Children's museum

The strongest sensory-programming venue in the region. Calm & Comfort kits (weighted blankets, weighted seek & find, child-sized noise-cancelling headphones, visual timer) developed with Lee Health's Golisano Children's Hospital, plus Sensory Night and a monthly Exceptional Night on the fourth Tuesday, 5:30–7pm — free for members, $5 otherwise.

University-based support network

Serves Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties; phone 239-590-7769. Free to Florida families. Designates Autism Friendly Businesses whose staff have trained with CARD — calling to ask which local venues have done so is the fastest way to find accommodations that are not advertised.
