Occupational therapy (OT) is one of the most practical supports for many autistic children. Occupational therapists help with the everyday skills of childhood — self-care, fine motor tasks, handwriting, feeding — and, for many autistic kids, with sensory processing: understanding and responding to how a child experiences sound, touch, movement, and light.

In the Bangor area, occupational therapy for children is available through a few routes. For children under 5, Child Development Services (CDS) provides OT as part of early intervention and preschool special education, statewide and free for under-3s. Hospital-based and clinic outpatient OT serves the region, and some ABA providers offer or coordinate onsite occupational therapy alongside behavioral treatment.
