Autism Summer Camps in Providence specifically

In the Providence area, summer options for autistic children come from several sources.

Where to look:

  • Specialized programs — some disability-serving organizations and clinics in Rhode Island run summer programs for children with autism and developmental disabilities; availability varies year to year
  • Inclusive camps — many mainstream day camps, YMCA programs, and municipal recreation programs in and around Providence can accommodate autistic campers, sometimes with support; ask directly about their experience
  • Extended School Year (ESY) — if your child qualifies, ESY services over the summer are provided through the IEP; ask your school team
  • Statewide resources — RIPIN and the Sherlock Center can point families toward current summer options

A note on availability: Rhode Island is small, and the number of dedicated autism-specific camps is limited. Some families also look at options in nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut, given the short distances. Because listings change every year, we don't name specific camps here — we'd rather you get current, verified information than rely on a stale list.

Funding: ESY is free through the school. For other camps, ask about scholarships and sliding-scale fees, and check whether any respite funding you have can apply.
