Occupational Therapy for Autism in Greenville, South Carolina

Occupational therapy helps autistic children manage the everyday tasks that make up a childhood, from getting dressed to handling a noisy classroom. OTs work on sensory processing, fine-motor skills, self-care, and self-regulation, always with the aim of helping a child participate in the life they want. This page covers what OT involves and how Greenville families find it.

Occupational Therapy in Greenville specifically

In the Upstate, occupational therapy is offered through outpatient clinics, hospital-affiliated rehab programs, and private practices, and it is part of the multidisciplinary assessment model. The Autism Spectrum Evaluation Team (ASET) includes occupational therapy in its evaluations, and Prisma Health developmental services can help connect families to OT care.

For children under three, BabyNet (South Carolina's Part C early-intervention program through SCDHHS) can provide occupational-therapy services to eligible children without requiring an autism diagnosis first. This is often the quickest path to early sensory and motor support for a toddler.

Once a child reaches school age, OT can also be provided in school when it is needed to access education. Greenville County Schools, and neighboring Spartanburg and Anderson County districts, offer school-based OT under an IEP. School OT is educationally focused and can run alongside clinic-based OT funded through insurance for broader daily-living goals.
