Long Beach has no autism-only K-12 private day school of its own. What it has is a large, well-resourced district special education department, easy access to Los Angeles County nonpublic schools, and a strong post-secondary transition program. Here is how the pieces fit.
LBUSD lists Special Day Class options including the S.U.C.S.E.S.S. program, a class of 10-12 students with a 2:1 student-to-adult ratio. Staff are trained in Applied Behavior Analysis and use evidence-based supports for students with autism, communication and behavioral needs.
Visit siteA Spectrum Center campus at 4400 Briercrest Avenue, Lakewood, serving students with autism, emotional and behavioral needs, and those needing transition and vocational training. It uses ABA-based positive behavioral support and smaller classes.
