The good news is that Naperville and the western suburbs have several venues with genuine sensory programs, and Chicago's certified venues are a short drive away. Below are places whose accessibility offerings we checked on their own websites, with honest notes on what is currently running and what is paused. Always double-check hours and program dates before you go.
In Naperville. Its Adaptive Play Time program is on a deliberate pause while the museum listens, learns and reimagines it. In the meantime the museum points families to its quieter windows: weekdays after 2pm, sunny days, and — for members — Member Only Mornings on Mondays and Thursdays at 8am.

Lends free sensory bags and visual schedules from the Information Desk, publishes seasonal Children's Garden social stories, and runs Sensory-Friendly Times in the Children's Garden on select Mondays from April through October, 5:00–6:30 PM, capped at 75 people with advance online sign-up and included with admission. Paved paths suit families who do better outdoors.

KultureCity-certified sensory-inclusive venue with free sensory bags at the Information Desk, a quiet room off the Grand Hall open at any time, and a free Sensory Friendly app with visual schedules and sensory maps. Also holds Calm Waters events for guests with disabilities and Veterans, with limited capacity and advance registration.
