Occupational Therapy in Manchester, New Hampshire

Occupational therapy for autistic children in the Manchester area — what it actually helps with, and how to find and fund it.

Occupational therapy (OT) is one of the most practical supports for autistic kids: it works on the everyday skills and sensory needs that shape whether a day goes smoothly. In Manchester, families reach it through early intervention, schools, clinics, and private practice.

Good OT works with a child's sensory profile, not against it. Our autism therapy options guide shows how it fits alongside other supports.

Occupational Therapy in Manchester specifically

In the Manchester area, OT reaches families through several systems. For children birth to three, Family Centered Early Supports and Services (FCESS) — delivered through the area agency system, with the Moore Center serving greater Manchester — can include occupational therapy, with no diagnosis or referral required and a free evaluation. For school-age children, the Manchester School District (the largest in New Hampshire) provides OT as a related service when it is written into an IEP.

Clinically, Easterseals NH offers pediatric occupational therapy among its Manchester services, and other pediatric therapy practices in the greater Manchester area provide outpatient OT. Some clinics offer sensory-focused environments; ask what a given practice actually provides.

On funding: New Hampshire's autism insurance mandate requires state-regulated plans to cover medically necessary autism treatment, which can include OT (self-funded ERISA plans are exempt — check your plan documents). NH Medicaid covers medically necessary occupational therapy for eligible children. OT provided under a school IEP is free to families.
