Getting an autism diagnosis in Ann Arbor

A formal autism diagnosis is the key that unlocks most funded services in Michigan. Ann Arbor families have an unusual advantage — a nationally recognized university clinic in town — but demand is high, and knowing all your routes helps. This page explains where evaluations happen and what to do while you wait.

Michigan Medicine — Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics at C.S. Mott

Children's hospital developmental-behavioral pediatrics clinic

C.S. Mott splits autism evaluation across two clinics on E. Hospital Drive: the Multidisciplinary Developmental Evaluation Clinic for children 5 and under, and the developmental-behavioral pediatrics clinic for ages 6-10. Children 11 and older are scheduled through a separate line. Academic medical centers commonly carry long diagnostic waits, so ask where you land in the queue and whether an interim referral is possible.

Mary A. Rackham Institute — Testing Services

University psychological testing clinic

MARI's own site states it is an Approved Autism Evaluation Center designated by Blue Cross Blue Shield / Blue Care Network of Michigan, and evaluates autism alongside ADHD and learning disabilities. The process starts with a consultation appointment, then a parent interview and one to three child testing sessions. Their site notes adult testing currently has a wait of over a year — confirm the child-side wait when you call.

Judson Center Autism Connections

Nonprofit autism diagnostic evaluation and ABA

Judson lists autism diagnostic evaluation alongside ABA, speech, OT, and behavioral health, which can shorten the gap between diagnosis and starting services. Worth asking whether they can evaluate your child if you do not intend to use their ABA program, and confirming their current evaluation-center status and insurance directly with intake.

Private psychology practice offering autism evaluations

Private practice doing autism spectrum evaluations across the lifespan, combining records review, clinical interview, and formal measures. Smaller practices sometimes move faster than hospital systems, but coverage varies.
