Getting an autism diagnosis in Chicago

Rush AARTS Center (Autism Assessment, Research, Treatment & Services)

Hospital-based autism assessment and treatment center

Diagnostic evaluations across the lifespan — children, teens and adults — at 1645 W. Jackson Blvd, staffed by psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers, with active autism research programs. Appointment-only, and academic autism centers in Chicago commonly carry long evaluation waitlists, so ask where you would land in the queue.

Lurie Children's Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics

Children's hospital developmental-behavioral pediatrics division

Multidisciplinary diagnostic evaluation for autism, developmental delays, ADHD and learning disabilities, based at 225 E. Chicago Ave with additional sites. Note the division does not provide ongoing ABA, speech or OT — it diagnoses and refers, so plan for a second search after the evaluation.

Screenings and psychological, speech and assistive-technology evaluations at 1640 W. Roosevelt Rd, part of UIC's Developmental Disabilities Family Clinic and a regional center for The Autism Program of Illinois. The Place for Children with Autism – Diagnostic Evaluations

Private autism diagnostic evaluations

Private diagnostic evaluations from the same organization that runs the Chicago ABA centers, marketed on shorter waits than hospital clinics. Because the evaluator and the treatment provider are the same company, ask what the report includes and confirm it will be accepted by your school district and insurer.
